Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - FC Bayern is now playing the opening game of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season. As the German Football League (DFL) announced, the Munich team traditionally want to start the season as the defending champion despite their entry into the Champions League final.
But the team of coach Hansi Flick would forego additional preparation time before the first match day. The Munich team will receive FC Schalke 04 at the opening of the 58th Bundesliga season on September 18 (8:30 p.m.) and not just at the end of the first day of the match on September 21. The German champions have opened the new Bundesliga season since 2002.
Previously, because of the advancement of Munich in the premier class, it was planned that the new season would begin with the game Borussia Dortmund against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This top game will now take place on September 19 (6.30 p.m.). The hit between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern in the first half of the season will be on November 7th (6.30 p.m.).
This is evident from the timely schedules for the first eight game days of the Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga. The next dates are expected between October 5th and 9th.
Munich would now have more time to prepare for the final of the UEFA Supercup in Hungary in the event of a triumph in the premier class against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. The winners of the premier class and the winners of the Europa League will meet in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on September 24th.
