Sevilla FC has further expanded its record in the Europa League. In the final in Cologne, coach Julen Lopetegui's team won 3-2 (2-2) against Inter Milan. The goals for Sevilla were scored by Luuk de Jong (12th and 33rd minutes) and Diego Carlos with an overhead kick (74th), while Romelu Lukaku (5th, penalty kick) and Diego Godín (35th) scored for Inter.

For Seville it is the sixth success in the smaller of the two European cup competitions. No other club could triumph so often.

Lukaku achieved the opening goal for the Milanese with a single action. In the sprint duel, the Belgian prevailed against Seville's central defender Diego Carlos, who unfairly knocked Lukaku to the ground with his hands and feet from behind. Part of the scene took place in the penalty area, Lukaku turned the due penalty with a sharp low shot into the left corner. He had scored in the eleventh Europa League game in a row.

The lead did not last long as de Jong scored a diving header after a Jesús Navas cross. Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic got his left hand on the ball, but couldn't prevent the equalizer. The game went on for about twenty minutes with no great chances, instead the teams worked hard duels in midfield and at the referee.

Then it was de Jong again who hit the head for Seville. After a free-kick flank from the right half-space, the Dutchman won the dogfight with Roberto Gagliardini and headed the 2-1. For the Dutchman it was the third goal of this Europa League season. The first was the 2-1 winning goal in the semi-finals against Manchester United.

Bono saves Seville

But the equalizer fell just a few minutes later - in almost the same way: Inter received a free kick from a similar position as Sevilla before, which also came high into the penalty area, where Godin headed the tie again.

In the second half it wasn't dangerous until Lukaku started behind the defensive chain in the 65th minute from a suspicious position and after a pass from Nicolò Barella came to a free end. Seville goalkeeper Bono prevented Inter from taking the lead again with a strong save.

Instead, the 3-2 for Sevilla fell, and in a spectacular way: After a cross in Inter's penalty area, the ball was only deflected upwards. Diego Carlos, who was responsible for the 0-1 penalty, was not harassed, jumped to the overhead kick and got the ball well. Lukaku faked the conclusion into his own goal.
