The 47-year-old Dutchman Schreuder, who was most recently under contract with Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim, completes the club's new coaching team together with former Barcelona striker Henrik Larsson. Both signed contracts until 2022.
On Monday, the club, which had lost 8-2 to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last Friday in Lisbon, parted ways with coach Quique Setién. Schreuder compatriot Koeman was signed on Wednesday. He should lead Barcelona to old greatness. "We already know his thinking and his philosophy," said the controversial club boss Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Koeman was the national coach of the Netherlands, Larsson coach of the Swedish club Helsingborgs IF. Schreuder was released in early June, four match days before the end of the Bundesliga season in Hoffenheim. The reason was "differences over the direction of the club and the further common path".
