San Sebastian (AP) - The German women's soccer champions VfL Wolfsburg have easily reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The team of coach Stephan Lerch defeated the Scottish champions Glasgow City 9-1 (4-0) at the start of the final tournament in the Spanish Basque Country. The semi-final opponent on August 25th is FC Barcelona, who won the much closer Spanish duel with Atlético Madrid with 1-0 (0-0).
The Danish national player Pernille Harder scored four goals in the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian in the 16th, 45th + 3, 56th and 72nd minutes. The Norwegian Ingrid Syrstad Engen (20./45.) Also met twice. The other goals were scored by Felicitas Rauch (67th) and Scottish Leanne Ross with two own goals (80th / 90th + 5).
Wolfsburg won the Champions League in 2013 and 2014. The big goal is now to get the triple of the championship, DFB Cup and European premier class for the second time since 2013. The defending champion and long-term rival Olympique Lyon from France will play in the quarter-finals in Bilbao on Saturday evening against the second German club, FC Bayern Munich.
