Karsten Warholm approached the world record to within nine hundredths of a second at the Diamond League meeting

Touching the last hurdle probably prevented the two-time world champion from breaking the world record of 46.78 seconds that Kevin Young (USA) set at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Young's record is the oldest surviving outdoor world record in a man's career.
Consolation for Warholm: The two-time world champion set a new European record in his victory over Frenchman Wilfried Happio (49.14). The old record, run on August 29, 2019 in Zurich, was already held by him with 46.92 seconds. Constantin Preis was sixth with a time of 50.13 seconds.
In the women's 100 meter race, Vice European Champion Gina Lückenkemper finished fifth with a time of 11.33 seconds, just behind Rebekka Haase (11.32) in fourth. The Swiss Aija del Ponte won in 11.20 seconds.
