Will an Israeli player play for the young Romanian team this summer? Israel Today has learned that the Romanian Basketball Association recently examined the possibility of summoning the talented guard Nadav Jankovic, who holds Romanian citizenship.
Jankovic (17, 1.88 m) is one of the most prominent talents in the youth department of Maccabi Tel Aviv in recent years. He won the championship with the Yellows in the 2018/19 season and a few days ago signed a contract with Maccabi Ashdod with Ofer Rahimi, who is building a team to advance to the Premier League Before signing in Ashdod, the young player received an offer from the Volotari team, which finished in ninth place in the Romanian league last season.
In the league in Romania there is a law that requires placing a player up to the age of 23 on the pitch at any given moment during the first half. Volotari tried to sign him to a two-year contract, but the player preferred to stay in Israel and took the offer of the new relegated player to the second division.
In recent months, members of the Romanian Basketball Association have contacted Jankovic and his representatives, and inquired whether the player would be interested in representing their young team at the European Championships to be held in the summer of 2021, and at present he does not appear to be responding positively to the request.
Meanwhile, as first reported in "Israel Today" in collaboration with the BeBasket website, Maccabi Ashdod has signed the French-Jewish coordinator Arthur Rosenfeld (25, 1.83 m), who has played in the first and second French leagues in recent years. Last season he played for Vichy Clemont from the Second French League and averaged 7.8 points (38.3 percent for 3) and 3.4 assists per game.
