Cheers for the Champions League success - soon also for the Supercup?
Photo: Matthew Childs / dpaFC Bayern Munich will probably be the first Bundesliga team to play a competitive game in front of spectators in months. As the European Football Union Uefa announced, several thousand fans will be admitted to the Supercup game of the Champions League winner from Munich against the winner of the Europa League, this year Sevilla FC, on September 24th in Budapest.
Football had "lost something of its character" in the Corona crisis, said Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin. "We hope to be able to use the Supercup as a pilot project."
Up to 30 percent of the around 67,000 spaces in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest are to be filled. "We are working closely with the Hungarian Federation and the government to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved in the game. We will not take any chances," said Ceferin.
A return of spectators at Bundesliga games is not feasible for the time being.
