Gesa Krause has canceled her season. "I admitted to myself for the first time that my body needs a break," said the European champion and two-time World Cup third party over 3000 meter obstacle to the German press agency. Because: "Since my first World Cup in 2011 I have been doing my sport at a high level and have always been energized."
Krause announced via Instagram on Thursday evening what her consequences are from the events at the German championships. In Braunschweig, the top favorite had surprisingly given up almost three weeks ago. "For now I can only say that the past 23 months have been exhausting and I've used up my energy," wrote Krause. In the past almost two years, she only had 14 days off. In addition, the postponement of the Olympic Games "turned her life upside down". The 28-year-old now wants to "take a break" in order to fulfill her "dream of an Olympic medal" in the coming year.
For example, instead of starting at the Berlin Istaf on September 13, the German record holder will "definitely not run for two or three weeks. My feet and legs need that now," she said now. Just a bit of hiking, cycling, swimming, probably going on another vacation trip.
Of course, she will continue to train regularly. In November she also wants to go to Kenya as every year to prepare. And Tokyo 2021? "You have to assume that the games will take place. I see it positively. But of course I also have moments in which I doubt." Another rejection would be "an extreme situation".
