The corona crisis shook all world football and of course did not miss our little skate either. The short recess and the slashed budgets have only contributed to the acceleration of trends, and player acquisitions were an even rarer case last summer than last season. Under the auspices of the Corona and in view of the meager supply in the Israeli market, we received another wave of promotion from the national league, which often came at the expense of the veteran players and also led to a (temporary?) Devaluation of the number of foreigners.

Remember the two offset seasons? So get the cut season.

A few points about 2020/21, hoping it will come in handy for us.

The coaches

After another season with quite a few exchanges on the lines (only with two relegations could you find seven coaches: Hapoel Raanana with four and the Nes Ziona section with three), the 2020/21 model Premier League presents three new coaches and another team that opens a season with a shock at the last minute. The champion Maccabi Tel Aviv has appointed Georgios Donis in place of Vladan Ivic, Maccabi Haifa hopes that Barak Bachar will take it a step further after settling in second place with Marco Belbul, and Maccabi Netanya parted ways with the duo Slobodan Drapic and Shai Barda after four years and named its confident coach Raymond Atfeld. In the league. Both, by the way, are the only ones to make their Premier League debut.

Yesterday the news came from Betar Jerusalem that it has parted ways with Roni Levy and will have to find a new coach. All eight other teams continue with the coaches who finished the previous season, as do the returning residents of Maccabi Petah Tikva and Bnei Sakhnin.

The goalkeepers

A large number of Israeli goalkeepers walked around the market this summer. While the glove men’s chair game has left some of them without a seat, at least for now (the window is open until October 12) there haven’t been too many changes between the beams. Of the top playoff teams, only Hapoel Tel Aviv refreshed its position, with Ernests Shtakos being the first goalkeeper. Bnei Yehuda has meanwhile promoted the young Omar Niron after the departure of Emilius Zubas, Hapoel Hadera brought back Ruby Levkovich to Israel after failing to complete the Yoav Jerfi deal and Maccabi Petah Tikva newcomer Arik Janko. Four changes so far, with only three teams with foreign goalkeepers.

The veterans

If Mahran Lala does leave Hapoel Haifa and move to the first division, 38-and-a-half-year-old Tal Ben-Haim is the oldest player in the Premier League. The Betar Jerusalem stopper made his Premier League debut in the Maccabi Tel Aviv uniform in April 2001, so that during the playoffs of the current season he can mark 20 years of the first game. Each team has at least one player who was not even born then.

Except for Ben Haim, and currently Mahran Rady is still out, there are a total of two more players over the age of 34 who open the season: goalkeepers Ran Kadosh (Hapoel Haifa; soon 35) and Ohad Levita (Hapoel Beer Sheva; 34 and a half).

The returnees

We have witnessed this summer a tremendous legion inflation that is still going on, but there were also a few who returned. Maccabi Tel Aviv landed Dan Bitton (Ludogorets) and Tal Ben Haim (Sparta Prague) in Israel, Hapoel Hadera brought in Ruby Lewkowicz (Honved) and Omri Ben Harush, Eddie Gottlieb, Tal Kahila and Shai Ben David are due to sign in the Premier League after a season abroad. The immigrants

Apart from the two newcomers, as of the opening round there are another 43 players who have jumped a grade from the national to the Premier League. The leader in this category is Hapoel Beer Sheva, with three signings from the national team and four more players returning from the questions in the second league. Maccabi Petah Tikva brought with it five players from the league in which it spent one year, and the only one that has not yet added a player from a lower league is Bnei Sakhnin.

Apart from that, there are currently eight other players on the squad who have made a double jump - from the first division directly to the Premier League. These are Ido Weir and three other loanees who returned to Maccabi Netanya, two Bnei Yehuda signatories and two young men who joined MS. Ashdod.

The strangers

Until the end of the window, there is still a month and a half left and it is possible that quite a few new players from abroad will come here, but as of the opening of the league only two teams have completed the quota of six foreigners: Hapoel Tel Aviv and Hapoel Kfar Saba. The Reds signed five new foreigners who joined Emanuel Boateng and the Greens Sharon kept three and brought three, while all the other teams can still fill the ranks. On the other side of the scale is currently the champion Maccabi Tel Aviv with only two foreigners (Enrique Sborit and Eduardo Guerrero who returned from the loan, assuming Orush Nikolic did not count) and so does Hapoel Haifa .

The king of goals

Among the active players currently in the Premier League, Eliran Atar is the top scorer with 126 conquests (in the uniform of four different teams). His good friend Itai Schechter is currently on 99 goals and will enter the 100th club in the next goal. Next in line are Shlomi Azulai from Betar Jerusalem with 74, Tal Ben Haim Hechalutz with 72, Eden Ben Best with 61 and Nikita Rokavitsia with 59.

The trustees

After the separation of Khaled Khalaila from Bnei Sakhnin and the retirement of Itzik Ezuz, 32-year-old Mahmoud Kandil has the most seniority in one of the 14 teams playing in the Premier League. Sakhnin's injured goalkeeper is starting his 13th season on the only team he has played for, and is in fact the only one who has been on the same squad for over a decade in a row. He is followed by Eitan Tibi, who started his ninth season at Maccabi Tel Aviv and is with the longest streak for the champion following the release of Dor Micha (Sharan Yeni left in the middle of a year and a half at Vitesse).
