Mick Schumacher has achieved his sixth podium of the current season in Formula 2. In the Spa sprint race, the 21-year-old Prema driver finished second behind his team-mate Robert Schwarzman on Sunday.

"Sorry that the start didn't go so well, but thank you, thank you for this great car," Schumacher radioed into the Prema box.

On Saturday in the main race, Schumacher was already third. This puts him in fourth place in the overall standings - 26 points behind the leader Schwarzman.

"I think he will have the opportunity to test a Formula 1 car before the end of the season."

In the fight for the title in Formula 2, Schumacher could still intervene. And there are also encouraging signals from Formula 1. "I think he will have the opportunity to test a Formula 1 car before the end of the season," said Alfa Romeo team boss Frederic Vasseur on Saturday. Schumacher is a member of the Ferrari Academy. Alfa Romeo continues to train young drivers from the racing team.

The Ferrari boss also gives Schumacher hope

Mattia Binotto, the team boss of Scuderia Ferrari, had recently praised Schumacher. He wants to discuss with Schumacher soon what Ferrari plans to do with him in the coming year: The next logical step is a smaller Formula 1 team.

"I was very pleased to hear such a statement from Mattia. I see it as a compliment," said the 21-year-old in an interview with the "Süddeutsche Zeitung". "It shows that I have improved on every point where I should improve."

Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi drive for Alfa Romeo this season; Both drivers cannot yet be sure that they will also be in the car in 2021. The second Ferrari customer team Haas would also be an option, drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen have not yet been able to recommend themselves for a cockpit in the coming season.

Schumacher himself would now like to wait. "Because it is Corona, the plans have all been postponed a bit," he told the SZ. "I think I'll find out more in the next few weeks."
