While Eintracht Frankfurt is still hoping for spectators at the start of the season *, it is now clear:

The third division team has been confirmed ahead of time as the penultimate participant in this year's DFB Cup.
The reason for this are the
Würzburger Kickers
who prevailed on Tuesday (01.09.2020) in the semi-finals of the Bayern Cup against regional division SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg with 5: 1 (2: 0).
There they meet 1860 Munich, which was already a finalist after FC Memmingen had waived the semi-finals due to the corona.
Because the Kickers have already secured their place as second division climbers, the Munich team has also been confirmed as a cup participant.

Since they were relegated to the Bundesliga in 2004, the Munich team continued to slide, even playing a season in the Bavarian regional league in 2017/18 because they could not meet the license requirements for the 3rd division.
The direct ascent followed.
Since then, 1860 has been stuck in the middle of the 3rd division.

The Würzburger Kickers will meet Hannover 96 in the first round of the DFB Cup (September 14th).
