Former Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Beer Sheva Dashon Butler announced his retirement from basketball today (Sunday) when he was 32 years old.

As you may recall, in March we announced that the player is considering ending his playing career at a relatively early age due to the many injuries he has suffered and the desire to be with his family and children.

"I never really thought about the day I would decide to stop playing basketball," Butler wrote on his Instagram account a few hours after entering the West Virginia College Hall of Fame, "playing in this game really saved my life. It got me out of trouble and made me Learn better.

"I want to thank all the teams and coaches I played for professionally. I learned so much about the game from each of you. You helped change the way I see the game. Thank you for accepting me into your teams."

Butler was selected by the Miami Heat in 32nd place in the second round of the 2010 draft. He never played in the NBA, but spent good seasons in Europe, especially in the German hall, where he played three seasons and was also named captain.

In the 2018/19 season, he arrived in Israel and won the state cup with Hapoel Jerusalem.

Last summer he signed in Be'er Sheva, and his averages until the league break due to the Corona virus were 14.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per game.
