The French driver achieves his first victory in Formula 1 and the Spanish manages to be second for the first in his career

The Spanish Carlos Sainz (McLaren), who finished second this Sunday in the Italian Grand Prix, the eighth of the Formula 1 World Championship, got his second podium at the legendary Monza circuit since driving in the premier class, the one hundred first for Spain.

Sainz, who turned 26 last Tuesday, was second in a race won by Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) and Canadian Lance Stroll finished third.

The Spaniard manages for the second time to get on the drawer in Formula 1 after having been third in the Brazilian Grand Prix last year, the penultimate of 2019, in which he starred in the great comeback of the day, going from the bottom of the grid to the positions of honor.

The vast majority of the podiums in Spain were achieved by double world champion Fernando Alonso, who played the

after a Formula One race. The brilliant Asturian driver climbed 97 times to the drawer , with three different teams: Renault (the team with which it celebrated its two World Cups and with which it will return to F1 next year), McLaren and Ferrari.

The first Spanish podium was achieved by Alfonso de Portago -the Marquis de Portago, born in London-, who finished second, with a Ferrari, the 1956 British Grand Prix, in Silverstone (England), behind one of the myths of the category, the fivefold Argentine world champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

In 2006, the year of Alonso's second title, Pedro de la Rosa from Barcelona finished second - behind England's Jenson Button - in the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring, the track on the outskirts of Budapest.

Sainz, who will be a Ferrari driver next year, finished third last November 17 at the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo, where the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won the Brazilian Grand Prix, ahead of Gasly, from Toro Rosso ( now renamed Alpha Tauri).

Gasly celebrated his first F1 triumph this Sunday, the day the talented Madrid driver once again shone in the temple of speed.
