This is Maya Gabeira - on the highest wave a woman has ever ridden.
According to the World Surf Association, she measured 22 meters 40.
Her wave was about one meter higher than that of the French Justine Dupont on the same day.
It was February 11, 2020 in Nazare, Portugal.
But only now has the World Surf League announced the height of the waves.
The measurement is time consuming and difficult.
In this case, the World Surf League even sought the opinion of researchers and evaluated satellite images.
Maya Gabeira has exceeded her record from 2018 by almost two meters.
The Brazilian had also set this record in Nazare.
The place on the Portuguese Atlantic coast is perhaps the best surfing spot for giant waves in the world in the winter months.
The record competition in February also saw a novelty: men and women entered the water under the same conditions.
Gabeira also got the unofficial daily record: Kai Lenny won the men's category, but he rode a wave "only" 21 meters 33 high.
