Maya Gabeira broke her own record for the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman.

You have set the new world record, the World Surf League (WSL) said on Thursday.

Gabeira, who comes from Rio de Janeiro, had conquered the 22.40 meter high wave in the surfer hotspot Nazaré in Portugal at a WSL competition in February.

It surpassed its own mark of 20.72 meters from 2018.

"I risked more than I normally like to do," said Gabeira, who almost died in a record attempt in Nazaré in 2013 and then moved there, quoted in the message: "The speed was very high. But the sound of the wave when it broke it made me realize that this was probably the biggest wave I've ever surfed. "

The decision was so tight that the WSL even brought in scientists.

Ultimately, she came to the conclusion that Gabeira's wave was about one meter larger than that of the French Justine Dupont from the same competition day.
