Sebastian Vettel's Formula 1 career continues, after leaving Ferrari he will drive for Aston Martin in the coming year - and has found an interesting job, as he says.
"Aston Martin's comeback is one of the most exciting stories that Formula 1 has ever had. And it's great to be a part of it," said the 33-year-old at a press conference ahead of the Tuscan Grand Prix in Mugello on Sunday ( 3.10 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de, TV: RTL and Sky)
"The performances of this team are impressive and next year they will have the same money available as their opponents for the first time. Then they can finally show what they can really do."
From next year the budgets in Formula 1 will be capped.
However, Vettel does not see any direct attack opportunities on Mercedes.
"At the moment Mercedes is stronger than the rest, and that will continue to apply beyond the coming year. But the challenge is exciting. This team will grow while others have to shrink. That makes me confident. We want good results in the near future, We will see what is possible in the medium term. "
It has been speculated for weeks that Vettel could join Racing Point's successor team.
According to Vettel, two questions played a role in the decision.
Where the team could grow and what he wanted personally.
The answer to the second question took a little longer.
"But when that was cleared up, it went quickly," said Vettel: "But now I'm convinced that this step is the right one. And I'm looking forward to proving it."
