Romain Bardet has dropped out of the 107th Tour de France.
The 29-year-old captain of the French team AG2R suffered a concussion in a fall on the 13th stage on Friday, which is why he does not have to cancel the Tour of France.
On the mountain stage to Puy Mary, Bardet had lost 2:30 minutes to overall leader Primoz Roglic after his fall and had slipped from fourth to eleven in the battle for the yellow jersey.
Before the stage, Bardet was only 30 seconds behind Roglic.
The French hope for the first home win since Bernard Hinault in 1985 was finally dashed after the previous third Guillaume Martin lost a lot of time on Friday.
The stars Thibaut Pinot and Julian Alaphilippe had previously said goodbye to the race for yellow.
Bardet, who is moving to Team Sunweb for the coming season, reached the Tour podium in 2016 (2nd) and 2017 (3rd), but then no longer met the high expectations.
