The coaches and athletes are passionate about their work.

We give an insight into the division and the interesting sport.

Schongau - Contact athletes in particular suffered from the strong corona restrictions this year.

Even with the boxers of TSV Schongau, the virus did not pass by without a trace.

"Unfortunately, we had to cancel our junior tournament planned for November in the Lechsporthalle," reports department head Achim Hoffmann.

Meanwhile, after the easing in May, training operations ran relatively normally.

"We first trained in small groups and are now back with 20 people in a group," says Hoffmann, who currently regularly with eight to ten children and 15 to 20 adults in the premises of the former fitness studio on Kiem-Pauli-Weg the TSV boxers can use practically exclusively for themselves.

“The training opportunities are very good.

We are also very well equipped, ”says Hoffmann, looking at the 200 square meters that his department has been using for a good year.

The largest room in which the sandbags and punching balls hang is completely covered with mats.

There is also an area with soft floor mats in the gallery.

In one corner are numerous weight machines that are still from the former gym.

In addition, the TSV pugilists have a fixed boxing ring, which is a bit smaller than the regular one used in competitions.

"But you can practice a lot of things there, like how to behave in the corners," says the Schongauer boxing boss, who is also one of four trainers in the department.

"In Melanie Nicolai we also have a ladies' trainer," emphasizes Hoffmann, who is happy about the women in the club.

Among them is his daughter Charlotte Hoffmann, who boxed all over Germany, but also internationally.

For the still young department, the TSV boxers were re-established in 2016, things are going well in terms of membership numbers.

"Due to the coronavirus, we had a couple of withdrawals, but then also a couple of entries, the bottom line being that we still have 105 members."

Boxing in Schongau: four athletes compete in championships

The TSV boxing boss is currently more painful in the locker room.

"We have two, one is blocked and the other is closed due to Corona," says Hoffmann.

His athletes have to appear already moved and make their way home without showering.

“That will be difficult in autumn and winter.” Otherwise, the boxers will not be slowed down by the pandemic requirements.

"We have set up a system in which everyone has to register in advance for the training, and during the training everyone makes an exemplary entry in the attendance lists," praised Hoffmann.

The adults train three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).

The youngsters are challenged twice (Mondays and Fridays).

The Schongauers currently have four active players who compete in championships or competitions.

“My goal is to expand this squad to 15,” reveals Hoffmann.

But that's not easy under the Corona restrictions.

"We cannot currently reward our athletes with competitions," says the TSV boxing boss, who hopes that it will be better next year and that a certain normality will return.

With the Upper Bavarian championships, a major event is just around the corner for the Lechstadt residents.

"They should take place in April and we are all working towards that."
