Basketball: The French championship back in clear on the team

2020-09-15T09:16:50.058Z

The sports channel announced that it will broadcast Jeep Elite Championship and Women's League games this season.

Fans of the big orange ball will rejoice.

It's the return of basketball in the clear!

After five seasons on the Altice group - on the RMC Sport 2 - the Basketball League announced this Tuesday morning that its Jeep Elite championship will be broadcast this season on The Team channel.

“It becomes the most visible domestic championship in clear in France, savors Jérôme Saporito, director of the chain.

Basketball will go from shadow to light.

The Team had already broadcast a few league games (15) in clear during the 2015-2016 season.

After allowing the biathlon to touch the hearts of the French with the exploits of Martin Fourcade, after having broken audience records with the broadcasts of the matches of the French volleyball team during Euro 2019 or to achieve pretty scores with pétanque, the sports channel, which broadcasts between 42 and 43 disciplines on its antennas, hopes to create the same enthusiasm for basketball.

“We made an important decision to offer the championship to as many people as possible,” continues Alain Béral, president of the LNB.

It is a strong decision.

“Obviously the League would have refused an offer of RMC of 3 million euros to bind to the Team.

While his contract with Altice had brought him 50 million euros in five years, this new partnership will not bring any sports rights to the League or to the clubs.

The latter touched around € 130,000 per season.

A shortfall that the authority hopes to compensate by "the consolidation and the arrival of new partners thanks to the clear", indicates Béral.

"It is an investment but above all a choice to satisfy and change the audience," continues the president of the LNB.

In fact, the channel will broadcast one match in clear per day, the first will be the clash between Dijon and Asvel on Friday September 25.

The Pau - Le Mans duel will follow on Monday 28th and Monaco - Roanne on Saturday 3rd October.

The Monday box at 9 p.m. will be reserved for matches but this may change depending on the days and European matches that are played during the week.

In addition, the channel will broadcast matches of the women's championship, the finals of the Coupe de France for men and women scheduled for April 24, 2021 and the finals of Jeep Elite and the Women's League.

The League for its part will offer a number offer - free for the moment - with a match in clear on the networks on Saturday and a summary of all the others.
