Israeli sports will be shut down and who knows when he will return to his usual and beloved routine, out of nowhere came the treasure of the Israeli film archive, which was recently staged at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.

Hundreds of archival footage of local sports from the late 1920s to the north, with rare footage that had not yet been freely viewed and bound in one place.

Among the tuffins: Basa Stadium in Jaffa hosts a hot Tel Aviv derby, Maccabiah Stadium hosts the Maccabiah Games, and the Tel Aviv basketball derby looks amazing in the open hand of Elijah.

Hapoel Sal fans will be able to find a rare record of the last ever Reds championship, in 1967.

Meir Russo, director of the Israeli Film Archive at the Jerusalem Cinematheque, says: "One of the oldest films we found is a record of the Maccabiah Games from 1932. If I look for something in common from all the historical passages between 1927 and 1970, it is the importance Got coverage, but alongside the other industries. Lots of sailing, wrestling, fencing, swimming and more.

"Today we are enthusiastic about the Israeli team's Tour de France broadcasts, but we see through the movies how popular the bicycle industry was, for example, in Israel in the 60s, and see It's in the spirit of the times in movies. "

Tel Aviv at the center of things

One of the things that stands out in the sports coverage of the news diaries since then, which devoted their time to sports coverage, is the focus on sports activities that take place in the center, and most of the time only in the center.

In football and basketball, it seems that there are only two teams that receive documentation - Hapoel and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Rousseau agrees: "Throughout the project we encountered many different challenges, one of which was the fact that it is almost impossible to find documentation of competitions and sporting events outside the center of the country. In those years the news diaries did not document sporting events outside the central region. Betar, it's really become frustrating.

The same is true, by the way, of Be'er Sheva and Haifa as well.

"I am sure there are more materials out there and I would be happy if sports enthusiasts who have filmed excerpts from the south and north over the years contact us. We can make sure that the materials are digitized and stored in the digital archive for many years to come.
