It was the first competitive game in six months - and for the DFB women no obstacle to the European Championship in 2022. Even against Irish women who have so far been so strong in qualifying, Germany remains without a point loss.

The German soccer players won the first match of the European Championship qualification after a forced break of over six months against Ireland 3-0 (3-0).

With that, the Germans ousted the Irish team with 15 points (13 points more in one game) from first place in Group I. Marina Hegering headed the early lead (8th minute), Dzsenifer Marozsán added (38th), before Lea Schüller made the decision (41st).

The European Championship, postponed to 2022, will take place in England.

Most recently, the team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg played before the outbreak of the corona pandemic in early March at the canceled Algarve Cup.

But the DFB team did not notice any coordination problems and took the lead early: A corner from Marozsán landed at the penalty spot, which Hegering scored with his head (8th).

Scary moment in the 31st minute: Giulia Gwinn grabbed her knee after a collision with Denise O'Sullivan and had to be replaced, Leonie Maier came in for her.

But the Germans were not deterred and kept coming over the wings: Marozsán received the ball after a one-two with Melanie Leupolz to the semicircle of the penalty area and pulled from there.

Keeper Marie Hourihan could not react fast enough on the line - 2-0 (38th).

Only three minutes later came the next attack of the second in the world rankings, which also led directly to the gate.

A cross from Svenja Huth cleared the defender of Arsenal FC, Louise Quinn, only insufficiently and so put on for Schüller, who completed directly from ten meters.

Even after half-time, the Irish, who went into the game without defeat, did not pose a threat.

With a goal difference of 34: 0, the DFB women will face the bottom of the group from Montenegro (4 p.m., TV: ARD), who they defeated 10: 0 (5: 0) in the first leg.
