2020-09-20T14:37:58.856Z

Stade Toulousain qualified this Sunday for the 11th time in its history for the semi-finals by sweeping the Irs at home (36-8)

After Racing this Saturday, Toulouse also reached the last four of the European Cup.

The Haut-Garonnais club left no chance for the Irish province of Ulster (36-8).

Five tries, spectacle, panache: the Rouge et Noir will play their semi-final next Saturday against the winner of Exeter-Northampton (this Sunday at 6.30 p.m.).

Toulouse among the greats.

Has Toulouse recovered its place at the table of the greats of Europe?

Obviously yes!

Absent from the last four from 2012 to 2018, Stade Toulousain qualified for the semi-finals for the second year in a row.

Last year, he was logically beaten by Leinster (30-12).

This year, it has made the continental event its objective and is returning to the great hours of its history.

Toulouse still holds the record for the number of titles (4, tied with Leinster).

"We are confident, we feel good," said Romain Ntamack.

Kolbe and Dupont superstars.

If Toulouse is scaring again in Europe, it owes it to a very high quality workforce, carried by two players of exceptional class: the French scrum half Antoine Dupont and the South African winger Cheslin Kolbe.

These two are unstoppable and do things on the pitch that no one in their place could.

Toulouse with them is not the same team as without.

Against Ulster, Kolbe scored the first two tries, playing out thanks to his phenomenal support from the last opposing defenders.

Dupont, he distributed the game perfectly and pierced the defense several times, as usual.

The other team leaders, like opener Ntamack or full-back Ramos, also made a very good copy.

5th star objective.

Deprived of the quarter-final in front of 33,000 people at the Toulouse Stadium, forced to fall back on their more modest enclosure of Ernest-Wallon, forced to play in front of 5,000 people only because of the Covid epidemic, the Toulouse residents have disregarded context to pursue their quest: that of a 5th European title (after those of 1996, 2003, 2005 and 2010).

“This quarter, we were waiting for six or seven months, admits Romain Ntamack.

During all this time, we had only one desire: to play this meeting.

Now it's time for the semi-final next Saturday: at Exeter or at home against Northampton, depending on the winner of the other quarter.

The final is scheduled for the weekend of October 17 and 18.
