His signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv may have gone a little below the radar, but John Dibler (32) is one of the biggest names to come to Israel this summer, and one of the most prominent on a glorious list of players who landed in the Holy Land.

To this day, American procurement is recorded on high school and college records. Where he played in his youth, and in the Euroleague he is one of the eight best scorers in history with an average of 47 percent outside the arc.

"It takes a lot of work to be a scorer and develop a good shot," he says in an interview with Israel Today, "I have a short memory so mentally I always believe That even after the sin I can score.

Already in colleges I remember myself in the same situation, neither in high nor in down.

This way even if you score and even if you miss, you do not go crazy and continue as usual and score the next shot.

A lot of scenes are characterized by a short memory. "

A fraction worth millions,

so how does one of the best scenes in Europe in the last decade get to Hapoel Tel Aviv?

Dibbler has been playing for Carmen's Crew in the summer at TBT for four years (a tournament held every year in the United States and the winning team receives millions of dollars divided among its players).

Last year he reached the final and injured his finger in the first half. With a broken finger. His critical abduction and layup in the closing seconds gave his team a historic championship and two million dollars shared among the members.

"The ball broke my finger in my left hand," he recalls, "the hardest part was that it affected me to catch the ball.

I think I did not throw until that kidnapping.

We made some money and won.

Then I had finger surgery, but it's not terrible because it's in my left hand and I'm right. "

This is not the first time you have been injured in the final and come back to play. In high school you were injured and played all the way to victory in the regional final.

" You did good homework.

I had three fractures in my nose, but I grew up with two big brothers who played basketball and with a coaching dad, so over the years I got tough.

"When I was growing up, my father always told me, 'If you can go, you can play.'"

"After the game (in the TBT final; IM) I had my finger operated on and trained to find a team, but then the corona arrived and disrupted the plans," he continues. "My wife gave birth to twins and these are our first children. I was at least glad I could be home and experience it."

What playing ability are you in?

"I feel good, of course. The situation in America has been that I have not played really 5 on 5 in the last year, but given the circumstances I am in good shape because I trained in the last few months I trained with my team in TBT. I am still not who I can be but I hope it happens in a moment That the season will begin. "

"A once-in-a-lifetime season"

Dibbler's highlight in the Euroleague was in the 2016/17 season in a Glatsray uniform against Maccabi Tel Aviv when he scored 21 points (6 of 7 for three) in the Turks' huge victory, 63: 102. "Really?

I did not know it was a record.

We all played very well and it was a great game.

A lot of people here have already reminded me of this game, and I already know about the derby of course, so that's probably what everyone wants to remind me of.

I hope to restore that ability against Maccabi this season as well. "

At Maccabi you will meet a good friend who played with you at Ohio State, Othello Hunter.

"Othello is one of my best friends. I've talked to him every day since I came here. Don't worry, I'll talk to him on the pitch too. He's a great player and a wonderful guy. When the closure opens I'll set him up for dinner. We have already started a friendly trash talk. "

Like you said, you grew up with two brothers basketball players and a coaching dad.

It must have hardened you.

"It's not easy, think you have two big brothers and a dad who is always pushing. They made me not be lazy and always make an effort and I thank you for that. I must say they never forced me to play basketball. They were there to make sure I made the right choices and supported "This situation made me learn a lot about how to compete and play well. I learned to fight for lost balls and never give up."

Would you talk at home about other things besides basketball?

"There was a law in the house that my mother set, it was forbidden to talk about training at home. If we were in training and we fought with each other it was forbidden to talk about it at home. In retrospect, her law was a good law."

Dibbler's career high was in Karsiyaka between 2015-2012.

He won the trophy and then the championship that stunned Europe.

"It was a once-in-a-lifetime season," he still exclaims, "it was amazing. Think about who we won in the playoffs - Banbit who had a great season in Europe, Fenerbahce and Oberdovic who were in the Final Four of the Euroleague and Anadolu who was one game away. "A crazy connection in the locker room and we are in touch to this day. That's why we succeeded, we played hard and the fans were out of this world."

At the end of the interview I ask him if he has heard during his career that people say that he brings to the team only three-point shooting, and you can see on his face that he has heard these claims quite a bit.

"Yes, it's the ticket and what people know me for, but I try to bring a lot of things and especially to bring positivity to the team," explains Dibbler. "I hope to bring Hapoel European experience and leadership, because I played at every level. Wherever I was I brought positivity to the locker room. I know, I know this is very important. "

Along with the positivity and experience, Hapoel will be happy to receive some threes from Deibler as well.

The trauma of 22 percent to three from the last playoffs still resonates, and even in the three preseason games so far the Reds have scored at a very low percentage.

On Wednesday against Bucken Bears in the Champions League qualifiers there will be no second chance.
