Wolfsburg brings van de Sanden

The German champions VfL Wolfsburg have signed the European champion Shanice van de Sanden from Champions League winner Olympique Lyon.

The 79-time national player of the Netherlands signed a two-year contract in Wolfsburg, as the club announced.

"She is a very successful and internationally experienced player who has dominated the Champions League with Olympique Lyon in recent years and has played a major role in the success of her national team," said VfL Sports Director Ralf Kellermann.

With the Dutch national team, van de Sanden was European champion in 2017 and vice world champion in 2019.

However, van de Sanden was not a regular player in Lyon recently.

With this transfer, the Wolfsburg women are continuing to absorb the departure of their best player, Pernille Harder, to Chelsea.

VfL lost the Champions League finals in 2020, 2018 and 2016 against van de Sanden's ex-club Lyon. Only in 2013 did the German series champions prevail.
