Football national player Giulia Gwinn will be absent from Bayern Munich for months.

As the club announced, the 21-year-old suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and other ligament injuries in her right knee in the European Championship qualifier of the German selection last Saturday against Ireland (3-0).

During the international match in Essen, the offensive player was treated for minutes on her right knee after a duel and then had to be replaced in the 35th minute.

The German Football Association (DFB) wrote of an external ligament and capsule injury after an initial diagnosis on Saturday evening.

Further investigations by the Munich team have now revealed a more serious injury.

This is a major blow, especially for FC Bayern.

Gwinn moved from Freiburg to Munich in the summer of 2019 and became a regular player straight away.

In the fight for the championship, she will be missing from her club for a long time - currently Bayern are leaders in the Bundesliga after two match days ahead of Frankfurt and top favorite Wolfsburg.

The people of Munich wrote of "painful news" in their communication.

Gwinn made his debut in the Bundesliga at the age of 16.

For the DFB team, she has so far been used in 19 games, at the 2019 World Cup in France she was named the best young player.

After all, she will probably not miss a major international tournament due to the current injuries.

The European championship planned for the coming year has been postponed to summer 2022 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

In qualifying for the European Championship, Germany is the table leader in Group I, in the afternoon the team will face Montenegro without Gwinn.
