FC Schalke have their backs against the wall after the first Bundesliga matchday.

Coach David Wagner is more than counted.

Spectacular successor candidates are being traded.

  • At

    FC Schalke

    * it burns after the 8-0 debacle against FC Bayern *

  • Although only one Bundesliga match day has been completed, coach

    David Wagner

    is facing the end

  • Who could follow him with the squires?

    Sandro Schwarz

    ,

    Ralf Rangnick

and other spectacular names are traded

Munich - The

Bundesliga

* is just one match day old.

Actually, a point in time when the club doesn't have any major problems yet, because after the summer break they are still in the discovery phase.

But not so at

FC Schalke 04 *

.

In Gelsenkirchen it burns after the 0: 8 at the beginning against the triple winner

FC Bayern *

brightly.

Because apparently the

miners have not got

their problems from the catastrophic second half of the past season under control.

Across the seasons, Schalke have been waiting for a sense of achievement for 17 games (!).

It

was actually clear beforehand

that this would not work against the reigning

Champions League winner

*.

However, the manner in which the entire team of coach

David Wagner appeared

on Friday evening in the Allianz Arena * caused horror.

No body language, no self-confidence - with which the trainer is more than ever available.

The last Schalke win was already over eight months ago and dates from January 17, 2020. On matchday 18, the Knappen beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0.

The game next Saturday in the Veltins Arena * against Werder Bremen * will therefore be a

fateful game

for

Wagner

.

FC Schalke 04: Coach David Wagner before the end!

Spectacular candidates on the successor list

If his

Schalke players

do not show any reaction against the also ailing Bremen team, those responsible in Gelsenkirchen should have no choice but to draw conclusions.

"I expect a significant increase in performance against Bremen, which is also reflected in the result," said Jochen Schneider after the debacle against Bayern in the

picture

.

Allegedly, the S04 supervisory board is said to have already commissioned Schneider

to contact

possible successors

for

Wagner

.

So there should be a

list

since the summer

, on which some prominent names should be.

But who would be a suitable successor for

David Wagner

anyway

?

We name a few candidates.

  • Marc Wilmots (no club)

As a "fighting pig" he was the leader of the Eurofighters, which sensationally won the 1997 UEFA Cup against Inter Milan.

Wilmots was an interim coach at FC Schalke back in 2003 before he gained his first experience as a head coach at St. Truiden in Belgium.

From 2012 to 2016 he coached the Belgian national team and most recently worked as national coach in Iran and the Ivory Coast.

However, with limited success.

Wilmots is currently without a club and would therefore be available immediately.

In addition, as a club legend he would have a great reputation with the S04 fans.

Perhaps he would be exactly the right person to give the young and inexperienced squad of squires new confidence.

FC Schalke 04: spectacular names!

Who could be Wagner's successor?

  • Ralf Rangnick (without association)

Rangnick has also coached Schalke twice (2004/05 and 2011).

During his second engagement in Gelsenkirchen, he suffered a burnout and had to resign immediately.

In his 88 games as Schalke manager, Rangnick got the most points (1.82) of all Schalke coaches.

Last summer he was traded as the coach of AC Milan, but in the end the deal did not materialize, which is why Rangnick is currently without a club and therefore available immediately.

It is questionable, however, whether Rangnick is doing the situation to Schalke.

Especially since one would have to award him a lot more competence than is now the case with Wagner.

From the S04 environment, however, one can hear that Rangnick would be trusted to do the job.

  • Sandro Schwarz (without association)

The ex-trainer of FSV Mainz 05 has been mentioned again and again in Gelsenkirchen in the past few days.

However, Schwarz would be a similar coach type to Wagner, so he would rather come through the buddy rail.

He did a decent job at Rheinhessen for over two years, which was also heard at FC Schalke.

What speaks for Schwarz is that he is currently available and that his emotional nature could bring a breath of fresh air to the young Schalke team.

However, he also "only" gained experience in Mainz. The S04 bosses may not fully trust him with the Herculean task at Schalke.

FC Schalke: Wagner before Aus - will Raúl be the successor?

  • Norbert Elgert (coach Schalke U19)

It would actually be very romantic if Elgert were to become the head coach of FC Schalke.

After all, the coach has been making the greatest talents from the Knappenschmiede since 2003 and helped players like Mesut Özil and Julian Draxler to break through.

Elgert knows players like Ahmed Kutucu, Levent Mercan or Can Bozdogan inside out and could provide a leap in performance among the talents.

However, Elgert doesn't want to be in the Bundesliga spotlight and in general the 63-year-old prefers to concentrate on youth work.

YES!

WHISTLE!

HOME VICTORY!

  • Raúl (Real Madrid Castilla coach)

The legendary striker played for FC Schalke between 2010 and 2012 - and enchanted the fans in Gelsenkirchen.

Since then, the Spaniard has had absolute hero status at Schalke.

Raúl is currently coaching Real Madrid's second team and has led the Royal U19s to victory in the UEFA Youth League.

It would be the next sensation if Schalke signed him as a coach.

But that's not really realistic ...

FC Schalke on the trail of a possible Wagner successor: is sand a candidate?

  • Ebbe Sand (assistant coach Denmark)

Ebbe Sand would be just as romantic as Wilmots, Raúl or Elgert.

The Dane is also a cult at Schalke and has already had little experience as a coach - but not yet as the main coach.

He is currently assistant coach for the Danish national team.

But as head coach at Schalke in the current situation?

It would probably be too great a risk for both sides.

With all the names and personal details, one should forget that

David Wagner

has not yet been fired.

The 48-year-old proved in the previous preliminary round that he can play successful football.

However, the slump since the beginning of the year has been terrifying.

Maybe it just takes a sense of achievement at Schalke to knock over the buck.

You have the opportunity to do so on Saturday.
