Football Bundesliga: a draw between Freiburg and Wolfsburg - waited too long

Without Wout Weghorst in the starting eleven, there was little going on offensively at Wolfsburg. In Freiburg, the hosts were particularly dangerous, Lucas Höler missed the huge chance to win in stoppage time.

Wolfsburg's Yannick Gerhardt played a devastating bad pass in stoppage time of the game in Freiburg.

He sent his opponent Lucas Höler alone in the direction of his own goal.

Perhaps because of the many opportunities that Freiburg had at that moment, it took him so long to make a decision that goalkeeper Pavao Pervan just had to stand still - and parried.

It was the game's greatest chance.

And the last.

Wolfsburg remain without a win in the second game of the new Bundesliga season.

At 1: 1 (1: 1) in Freiburg, the wolves were lucky enough to take one more point.

For long stretches of the game Wolfsburg was the defeated team, Freiburg missed promising chances.

Nils Petersen scored the Freiburg lead (11th minute), Josip Brekalo equalized (42nd).

Shortly before the game, Wolfsburg had to do without regular goalkeeper Koen Casteels, who, according to the club, suffered from knee problems.

Instead, Pavao Pervan was in goal, which he only kept clean for eleven minutes: After a corner from the right, Petersen headed the ball at the near post over Pervan to take the lead.

In the aftermath, Freiburg continued to dominate the game, but without necessarily coming in front of the opposing goal.

Vincenzo Grifo shot over the goal after an uncertainty Pervans (28th).

Wolfsburg weak attack

Wolfsburg showed again a weak offensive performance after the goalless draw against Bayer Leverkusen at the start of the season.

Storm star Wout Weghorst initially stayed on the bench, according to media reports he is said to have aroused desires at Tottenham Hotspur.

The first real Wolfsburg goal chance came from a free kick around 17 meters in front of the Freiburg goal: Brekalo shot with full tension, Roland Sallai faked the ball to the lower edge of the bar to equalize (42nd).

In the second half at least the number of degrees rose.

Goalkeeper Florian Müller deflected a shot from João Victor to the side (48th), Pervan on the other side a shot from Sallai forward (57th).

The Wolfsburg goalkeeper was lucky that Lucas Höler was offside when he scored his goal.

Freiburg's Baptiste Santamaria hit the post in his Bundesliga debut after a blocked corner from 20 meters;

Pervan was still on the ball with his fingertips (63.).

After another corner, Pervan parried a long-range shot from Dominique Heintz (74th).

It was only after Weghorst's substitution in the 77th minute that Wolfsburg became more offensive.

The Dutchman narrowly missed two crosses from Jérôme Roussillon (80th, 84th), and headed another one next to the goal (90th).

There wasn't enough time for more.
