The spitting affair of Schalke's defender Ozan Kabak has a sequel.
The control committee of the German Football Association (DFB) initiated an investigation against the 20-year-old on Monday.
The panel asked the Turkish international to give a timely statement.
Kabak is said to have spat in the direction of his opponent Ludwig Augustinsson in the home game against Werder Bremen on Saturday evening (1: 3).
The Schalke, who had apologized that evening and denied an intention, is suspected of having been guilty of "grossly unsportsmanlike conduct in the form of assault against the opponent," it said.
Referee Markus Schmidt had not seen the scene, so the control committee can investigate afterwards.
After evaluating the opinion, a decision will be made on the further progress of the procedure.
Kabak was thrown off the pitch for repeated fouls with yellow and red.
Kabak had already apologized to Augustinsson on Saturday.
"It was not intended to fool the view from the outside," he wrote on Twitter: "I've never done something like this and never will, because it's simply unsporting. In any case, sorry to Ludwig."
The scene caused a lot of excitement after the game.
"I know that the situation at Schalke is uneasy. But that is absurd and a clear red card," said Werder coach Florian Kohfeldt on Sky.
The one day later dismissed Schalke coach David Wagner had said: "I know Ozan and I am convinced that it was not on purpose."
