Manuel Baum is taking over from the released coach David Wagner at Bundesliga club Schalke 04.
The 41-year-old ex-professional Naldo is the assistant.
The royal blues announced that.
The previous U18 coach at the German Football Association (DFB), who gained experience as a Bundesliga coach at FC Augsburg from 2016 to 2019, signed a two-year contract.
"With Manuel Baum we have been able to win an absolute expert for Schalke 04. If you look at his stations, you will find that his teams always had clear structures and processes on the field. That is a very important factor in our current situation", said sports director Jochen Schneider in the statement.
"Schalke 04 are a great club with an incredible amount of tradition and sporting potential," explained Baum: "Our most urgent task is to give the team a sense of achievement again as quickly as possible, in training and in the game. I am of the quality of our squad convinced."
The Royal Blues separated from Wagner on Sunday after 18 Bundesliga games in a row without a win.
With 1:11 goals and zero points, they have never started the new season as badly as a club in 58 years of the Bundesliga.
Baum will make his debut at Schalker Bank on Saturday (6.30 p.m., live ticker: SPIEGEL.de) in the away game at the Champions League semi-finalist RB Leipzig.
