Olympic Games: a substantial media village from 2024

2020-09-30T11:56:40.275Z

The idea of a media village, which had been debated for a few weeks, has been taken into account. According to our information, the work will be done in

The case is therefore heard.

During the 2024 Olympic Games, Le Bourget will have its media village, intended in particular to accommodate journalists and technicians during the event.

The agreement was discussed at the board meeting of the Olympic organizing committee (Cojo), this Wednesday morning.

The subject crystallized the tensions between the elected officials of Seine-Saint-Denis and the organizers of the Olympics for a few weeks.

A large part will be built for 2024, while the elected officials have obtained guarantees from the State so that the rest will be built just after the Games.

Concretely, the "lower" part of the village (the one located at the foot of the Tangential Nord station, near the future Olympic shooting site) and half of the "upper" part (along the Vents area) will be ready in 2024. This would represent between 600 and 700 homes.

A school, a nursery and a gymnasium from the first phase of the works

Details are not yet released.

According to our information, all public facilities will be carried out in phase 1: a school, a nursery, a gymnasium (which will be financed as part of the economic recovery plan linked to the Covid-19 crisis and not as part of the Olympic Games) , the requalification of roads, the footbridge (a priori pedestrian, even if some elected officials of Dugny would like it to also be used for buses and cars) spanning the A1 motorway and connecting Dugny and Le Bourget.

Phase 2 of the works will begin after the Games, with funding excluding the Olympic model.

A commitment from the State obtained after Michel Cadot, the interministerial delegate for the Olympic Games (DIJOP), gathered all the players around the table a few days ago.

“The village is saved, reacts Stéphane Troussel, president of the departmental council of Seine-Saint-Denis.

I had made it our red line through two aspects.

On the one hand, the heritage at the service of the inhabitants and the pride of the celebration of the Games.

This is why, for us, this idea of a media village was essential.

It was also essential that the first phase of the work be substantial.

What the work carried out with the DIJOP Michel Cadot has achieved.

Aquatic stadium and volleyball leave 9-3

In order to save 400 million euros on its budget (3.8 billion euros), the organizing committee (OCOG) has started a project review, aimed in particular at modifying the site map.

Two temporary structures disappearing from Seine-Saint-Denis (the aquatic stadium for swimming racing transferred to the Defense Arena and volleyball), the question of the media village arose.

All the more so as the organizers were no longer frankly in favor of it and proposed a village reduced to its maximum, ie 300 housing units (there will finally be nearly double this from 2024).

So the elect had stepped up to the plate.

“We have been repeating for years that in the Dugny – Le Bourget – La Courneuve sector, there is a real center of development, recalls Stéphane Troussel.

Currently, we have an alignment of the planets in this sector with the renovation of the air museum, the extension of the Exhibition Center, the arrival of metro and tram lines in Dugny.

This one could not arrive in the middle of nowhere, a new district made all its sense in this place.

Of course, the dynamics of the games, it was an opportunity to bring this idea to fruition.

We fought this battle to notch things, it was not a whim of elected officials.

This district had to see the light of day in a consistent way from 2024, with infrastructures so that it was not a dormitory city, but a real place of life.

This despite the need to make a number of savings.

"

Rugby arrives at Stade de France

The media village file will be validated during the board of directors of the Olympic books delivery company (Solideo, whose budget is 3.2 billion euros), scheduled for October 13.

The project of a permanent site in Seine-Saint-Denis which will be used during the Olympic climbing will also be recorded.

Unless there is a new change, the department will host shooting events (on the essences field), water polo, diving and synchronized swimming (at the future aquatic center built in Saint-Denis), athletics and rugby (at the Stade de France) and climbing (a priori at Le Bourget).
