Referee Bibiana Steinhaus celebrates her Supercup premiere in the evening - and could possibly end her career afterwards.
As the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Wednesday morning, the 41-year-old will be the first woman to whistle the German Supercup between champions Bayern Munich and runner-up Borussia Dortmund (8.30 p.m.; ZDF and DAZN, live ticker: SPIEGEL.de).
The Bild-Zeitung then reported that it could be her last game as a professional referee.
Accordingly, it is "more than likely" that Steinhaus will end her career immediately after the final whistle.
According to the report, private reasons are decisive for the decision.
The specialist magazine "Kicker" confirmed this report, the DFB did not want to comment on the request of the sports information service sid.
For Steinhaus the match in Munich is the first game since the 32nd matchday of the preseason, on the first two matchdays of the professional leagues of the current season she was not yet in action as a referee.
Steinhaus was previously the first woman to be used as a referee in German professional football.
The FIFA referee also made history with her first Bundesliga appearance in September 2017.
Steinhaus was named "Referee of the Year" six times, and she represented Germany three times each at the Women's World Cup and European Championship.
