American tennis champion Serena Williams, three-time Roland Garros champion, has announced her withdrawal from the French Open.
Sky Sports reported today that the 39-year-old former world number one, Williams, announced her withdrawal from the tournament due to an Achilles tendon injury before playing her second round match on Wednesday.
Williams was scheduled to meet Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in the second round of Roland Garros, but the injury prevented her from that, so her opponent automatically qualified for the third round.
