It was a novelty for Juliane Nuscheler and "Karl Louis".

For the first time, the woman from Altenstadt won a three-star competition.

And it shouldn't stay that way.

Altenstadt - In Corona times, it can also be a size smaller when cheering.

The main thing is that people can celebrate at all.

When Juliane Nuscheler won the Intermediaire II exam in Munich-Riem, there was at least one “award ceremony on foot”.

With a mask but without a horse, the seven placed entered the arena.

"That was nice," reports the 27-year-old.

In her first three-star victory a few weeks earlier in Babenhausen - Nuscheler had won a Grand Prix test for non-professionals with "Karl Louis" with 69.3 percent - there were none at all because of the stricter Corona requirements at the time Award ceremony.

“Unfortunately,” says Nuscheler.

The woman from Altenstadt received her gold ribbon away from the square.

“I still enjoyed the win.” There was absolutely nothing wrong with the tournament itself.

"That was great."

The corona pandemic has also shaken up the sporting year for riders.

Nuscheler and her only ten-year-old gelding, however, have consistently kept one direction: upwards.

Last year, the duo competed at three-star level for the first time - that is the highest level in dressage.

And now we've already had two wins.

In Munich-Riem and Babenhausen, Nuscheler and "Karl Louis" took part in a total of six three-star competitions.

They were placed in all of them (that is, they landed in the front third), the results fluctuated between 68.5 and 70 percent.

For Nuscheler this is also a confirmation of their work: "We are on the right track."

You don't just sit on it.

Juliane Nuscheler on the physical effort that the rider has to put in during a ride in the saddle.

The 27-year-old is still far from satisfied: “There is always more.” She has never ridden out of the square, says Nuscheler, “and the trainer said: It was a perfect lap.” The criticism “I'm learning ".

The coach, Uwe Schwanz, on whose riding facility at Sauerlach Juliane Nuscheler and her younger sister Bettina have set their horses, is a big name in Bavaria.

In Munich-Riem he took third place in the Grand Prix Freestyle with “Hermes”.

The victory went to team world champion Jessica Bredow-Werndl (with "Ferdinand BB"), who recently left behind her Olympic champion Isabell Werth in the special at the DM in Balve.

Your horse, says Juliane Nuscheler, has a high basic quality.

In addition, “Karl Louis” is very ambitious, “that's an advantage for me”.

And it also helps if there are three exams on a tournament weekend.

Because that is "generally exhausting" for both the rider and the horse - nervously and physically.

The rider has to work hard during a test so that the horse can show its skills to the judges.

"Karl Louis" has its strengths in the passage and the trot tour.

“It has a lot to do with body tension.

You don't just sit on it, ”says Nuscheler.

At the same time, a ride should look easy on the outside, ideally the rider's aids are barely visible.

Riding more than just a hobby

In order to take further steps forward in terms of “performance”, “I have to ride better myself,” says Nuscheler.

Since the three-star level is still relatively new to them, “I often ride safely”.

You would have to take more risk there.

“It is not yet the optimum,” says Nuscheler.

What she does is more than just a hobby.

“It's a passion, otherwise you probably won't do it,” says the 27-year-old with a smile.

Working with a horse, especially in this performance class, takes a lot of time.

In addition, she works as a project manager at a fashion company.

Nuscheler was able to set it up so that she can act flexibly.

Nuscheler praises the team at the Waldhauser Hof equestrian center.

The professional colleagues are also open-minded.

In addition to horse riding, Nuscheler does a lot of recreational sport - this includes going to the gym, jogging and mountain tours.

“And I have friends too,” she says with a laugh, looking at the busy schedule.

It should go further up

With "Karl Louis", the Altenstadt resident wants to improve further in order to be competitive in a special and a freestyle.

“This is another caliber,” says Nuscheler - but also emphasizes: “I want to get there.” The three-star exams differ in the sequence and the evaluation of the lessons, which is reflected in differences in difficulty.

In order to land at the very top at a high level, “everything has to fit,” says Nuscheler.

On the one hand there are the requirements such as piaffe, passage and canter traversals and on the other hand there is the competition.

At the tournament in Thann in August, Nuscheler and "Karl Louis" came in the Intermediaire-II to 68.026 percent.

That was not enough for a placement that day.

The experience is all the better when - as in Munich and Babenhausen - a gold ribbon pops out at the end.

Such successes are an incentive, "one likes to keep them in mind".
