Canadian Laila Fernandez, 19, reached the third round of Roland Garros, one of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments, for the first time, after her victory today over Bologna Herzog 6-4 3-6 6-1.
And Fernandez, the youngest player still to compete in the tournament in France, after Danish Clara Towson had been exited earlier in the second set after her difficult victory in the first set, but she excelled in the deciding set.
Fernandez is participating in the main draw for a major tournament for the third time and has taken another big step today, reaching the third round at Roland Garros.
