On the sidelines of the draw for the Champions League, UEFA has indicated that it allows the partial return of spectators to European competitions.
And this from next week for the matches of the national teams.
The number of spectators will however be limited to 30% of the stadium's capacity and visiting supporters will not be allowed to travel.
Rules that cannot be applied in most countries.
The European football body recalls that it is the local authorities who have the last word on opening to the public and on the level of the public authorized to enter sports arenas.
Several hundred supporters for the Blues
In France, the limit is currently set at 1,000 spectators.
UEFA's decision should therefore not impact the French team's matches against Ukraine and Portugal on October 7 and 11 at the Stade de France.
The Blues should therefore play in front of several hundred people only.
“Today's decision is a reasonable first step that prioritizes the health of fans and compliance with local laws,” said Aleksander Čeferin, UEFA president.
At a time when we all have to face a common adversary, Covid-19, countries each have their own approach and face different and varied challenges over time.
This decision gives us more flexibility at the local level in welcoming spectators than before, while allowing us to respect the assessments of the local authorities.
