The operator becomes one of the biggest sponsors for the Olympics which will take place in four years in France.

If the health crisis has forced the Cojo (Organizing Committee) of the 2024 Games to revise its budget downwards, leading in particular to a reorganization of the sites, a new “rank 1” partner has just been announced this Thursday.

After BPCE (Banque Populaire / Caisse d'Epargne) and EDF, it's Orange's turn to join the very closed circle of “Top Partners” of the biggest sporting event on the planet, which will take place in Paris in four years.

This partnership was announced at the end of the afternoon by Stéphane Richard, CEO of Orange and Tony Estanguet, president of Paris 2024, in the presence of Anne Hidalgo, mayor of Paris.

“We are delighted to welcome Orange to the Paris 2024 family,” declares Tony Estanguet.

Providing telecommunications at the Olympic and Paralympic Games is a big challenge.

As we get closer to the deadline, the eyes of the whole world will be on Paris.

Connectivity must be impeccable so that spectators and viewers can fully live their passion and share their emotions.

"

Orange invests the equivalent of 144 million euros

Concretely, the telecommunications operator, which weighs 42 billion euros worldwide in 2019 and 143,000 employees, "will offer spectators and broadcasters an optimal quality of service", according to the official press release.

“The organization of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a major issue for the entire French economy and a fantastic technological challenge for Orange, adds Stéphane Richard.

The connection of all sites and participants to very high speed will be essential to succeed and share this unique event.

"

The arrival of Orange, which is investing the equivalent of 144 million euros to become a “rank 1” partner, also enables the Cojo to achieve 50% of its sponsorship objectives.

Its private partner budget is 1.08 billion euros, or about 30% of the total budget for the organization (3.8 billion), which corresponds almost entirely to private revenue (ticketing and IOC contribution in addition to sponsors ).

The rest of the total budget (6.8 billion euros) concerns investments by the State and communities in sustainable facilities, in particular the Olympic village and the media village, transformed after the Olympics into housing districts.
