A surprise for Julian Herter: The TSV Penzberg athlete competed over the 400 meter hurdles for the first time in the Bavarian championship - and in the end found himself on the podium.

Penzberg - The Bavarian athletics championship in Erding was a source of joy not only for Andreas Kölbl, but also for other athletes at TSV Penzberg.

This was particularly true for U18 athlete Julian Herter, who won silver in his first race over 400 meter hurdles.

The 16-year-old high school student set a high pace right from the start and crossed the finish line after 59.02 seconds.

Trainer Conny Lechner-Brennauer was very satisfied: "Julian ran really bravely and was able to pull through the 15 rhythm as planned up to the fifth hurdle." Tobias Sonneck won gold (LG Würm Athletik / 57.68).

Herter was just under a second ahead of third-placed Sebastien Döring (LAC Quelle Fürth).

The day before, Herter had set a personal best over the 400 meters with 53.22 seconds (6th place).

Sven Lange (53.65 / 7th) and Colin Klein (55.12 / 9th) ran in the same race.

TSV Penzberg: Unexpected gold medal for Michaela Kölbl

Unexpectedly, Michaela Kölbl, Andreas' younger sister, won a gold medal in the U20.

The 19-year-old crossed the finish line in second place behind Sophie Ochmann (LG Eckental) after 66.43 seconds.

At the award ceremony, the student teacher learned that she had become a Bavarian champion.

Ochmann had been disqualified for the entire championship after she had not registered properly with the judges the day before when she refused to start over the 400 meters.

Kölbl's joy "about the unexpected gold medal was rather restrained," said TSV in a press release.

The Sindelsdorf woman competed in the 400-meter sprint (62.30) and over 800 meters (2: 26.88) - both times she was fifth.

Sprinter Raffieu Deen Johnson went through an emotional roller coaster.

First of all, he was disappointed when he was disqualified in the men's 100-meter run due to a false start.

Two hours later, the 20-year-old was in good spirits at the start of the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Together with Matthias Bauer, Michael Speinle and Andreas Kölbl, he sprinted to fifth place with 44.80 seconds.

To achieve bronze, the TSV quartet should have been 1.72 seconds faster that day.

TSV Penzberg: Raffieu Deen Johnson shines over the 200 meters

The next day, Johnson had a real reason to be happy.

In the men's 200 meter final, he improved his previous personal record by nine hundredths.

After 21.88 seconds, the Penzberger crossed the finish line.

Johnson celebrated his best time exuberantly, and on top of that he had won the silver medal.

Only Jonas Hügen (LAC Quelle Fürth) was faster, who ran half of the stadium lap in 21.38 seconds.

Johnson was three tenths ahead of third, Hendrik Gühlen (LG Erlangen).

In the run-up, the Penzberger had acted highly concentrated in order not to risk another false start.

With a time of 22.20 seconds he won his race and qualified directly for the final.
