In 10 days, Zdenek Undershek will mark exactly one year as the happiest day of his football career.

Shortly before celebrating his 31st birthday, the striker made his Czech national team debut and 20 minutes later, with the clock ticking in the 85th minute, scored a winning goal against England in the Euro 2020 qualifiers. "This is the first time in my life that I have seen "My father is crying," he said the next day.

"We did not know him," admitted England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and the truth is that Gareth Southgate's side were not alone.

Even in the Czech Republic Undershek was relatively anonymous, but you can count on Yossi Aboksis and the defensive players of Hapoel Beer Sheva who learned the "Cobra" Undershek well.

Shocked in England and kissed "my most important tattoo".

On his left hand are tattooed the birth dates of his parents, two sisters and brother and after each gate Ondreshk kisses the same hand.

"My family is the most important thing in my life," he once said, "every tattoo symbolizes something for me, but the most important of all are the birth dates of my family members. The left hand is dedicated to my family, the right hand belongs to tattoos related to my football career."

Tonight, the powerful striker who turned his body into canvas, will also try to score against Hapoel Beer Sheva.

He started his career in Ceska Budiovice and there also earned the nickname that accompanies him to this day: "Cobra".

And with all due respect to his family's birth date tattoos, this one of Undershek's most recognizable is imprinted on his back: a giant cobra.

"When I first graduated from Bodiovice, the coach showed us excerpts from one of the games and told me that I was not working hard enough and that I needed to run more," he said many times. "Then he suddenly bites like a cobra." All the players laughed and since then they started calling me a 'cobra.' A few years later, the captain told me I should get a cobra tattoo. And that's what really happened. "

"Cobra" was called everywhere he went and in an interview a few months ago, while still playing in Dallas from the MLS, he even said with a smile that "when I first came to the US, I was just called a cobra.

For months I did not hear my real name, only Cobra.

It may have been difficult for them to pronounce my name. "

"The coach told me: 'You don't move and then suddenly you bite like a cobra.'"

10 years ago, when Undershek just tattooed the snake on his back, it was hard to imagine that the road would lead him to a successful career.

Although he made three appearances for the Czech Republic's youth team, he spent most of his low salary on slot machines.

In 2012 he managed to find an escape route from the destructive track when he signed with the Norwegian Tromso.

"If I had stayed in the Czech Republic, I would have finished with football in a few months," he said in retrospect, "I was not an alcoholic or anything, but I would drink and smoke, and instead of investing extra in training, I would spend and go to the casino."

Andersek has played in the Norwegian league for five years, four of them in the senior league.

Pushing his family, he was able to concentrate on football and with the help of the physicality and work ethic he developed, he scored 55 goals in 142 appearances in all competitions.

In 2016 he moved to Wisła Krakow and in the 2018/19 season - after overcoming a long injury - he scored 11 goals in 19 league games in Poland.

From there the road to MLS was short.

"I would drink and smoke and instead of investing extra in training, I would hang out and go to the casino."

When interviewed a few years ago, Ondershek said he had long since given up on the team’s dream, but last year he received a summons.

Many wondered, until at the age of 30, in his national uniform debut, he scored a winning goal against England.

"Cobra's story is great. He does not stop running, he does not give up any ball. You see it in training, he enters any confrontation without any fear," said goalkeeper Tomasz and Atzlik and today, whether he opens or comes off the bench, Victoria's snake Plzen will also try to bite Hapoel Beer Sheva.

In the summer, Undershek gave up on the American dream and after 9 goals in 22 MLS games, returned to the Czech Republic "for family reasons".

Today, whether he opens or rises from the bench, Victoria Plzen's snake will try to bite Hapoel Beer Sheva as well.
