The new handball season starts at the weekend.

Schongau

- On March 8 of this year, the Schongau handball players played their last league game before the season was prematurely canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Almost seven months later, the TSV handball players start the new season in a new league.

As first in the table in the district class at the time of the cancellation, the Lechstädter were allowed to rise and celebrate the direct return to the district league.

In the future, the Schongau men will be trained by David Schmoldt alone.

Co-trainer Tanja Rösner took over the women's team.

The Schongau squad has largely remained unchanged.

However, Markus Konstantin is no longer available.

Christoph Salzmann, Roman Häuserer and Tobias Redmann (studies) as well as René Finsterwalder (referee) will only be used sporadically.

Valentin Konrad is out of the season with a cruciate ligament rupture.

Unknown size at the beginning

“Our squad has become thinner than last season,” admits Schmoldt, although players had to watch regularly from the stands in the promotion season because not all of them could be used.

The Schongauers will not be able to afford this luxury in the district league.

Due to the corona, the preparation did not go completely smoothly for them, to which the mandatory hall closure in Schongau in August also contributed.

"Physically, the boys are very fit, so we did a good job in the athletics area," says Schmoldt.

"We still have a lot to do in terms of handball in the next few weeks, but that will be fine."

At the start, TSV will meet SC Unterpfaffenhofen-Germering II next Saturday (8 pm). The starting opponent is an unknown quantity for the Schongauer.

"I'm expecting a young team that plays fast handball, as the SCU reserve probably also serves as a springboard for their first team in the regional league," says the TSV coach.

Spending placement doesn't make sense

He holds back with a goal for the season.

"Nobody knows how many are going down, although I expect five to six teams." The pandemic also continues to create uncertainty.

"If the first corona cases occur after a few match days, it is questionable how and whether the season will be played to the end," said Schmoldt.

Therefore, it makes no sense to issue a placement.

"We want to go to our performance limits in every game and give one hundred percent, have fun in the team and everyone stay healthy," is the dream of the TSV men's coach.

The Schongau handball players still have some time to prepare.

You won't start the new season until October 11th.
