"Ice chopper" at the start against two newcomers

TSV Peißenberg starts confidently into a Bayern league season, behind which there are many question marks due to Corona.

- From the end of August, ice hockey fans are looking forward to the new season more and more.

That was different in this Corona-shaped year.

For a long time it was not clear whether they would play at all.

While the higher leagues start playing in November at the earliest, the Bayernliga takes a different route.

It will start the new season this weekend under strict conditions.

A maximum of 200 spectators are allowed in the Peißenberg stadium.

When it came to putting the team together, the "ice hackers" decided early on that, given the financial imponderables, they would play this season without foreigners.

With Florian Höfler, the Peißenberg team also lost one of their most reliable goalscorers in recent years to the upper division EV Füssen.

Three other players - Leonhard Zink, Lukas Bucher and Matthias Müller - joined the league rivals Schongau.

The “ice hackers” filled the gaps in the squad with three talented strikers from the neighborhood.

Bad Bayersoiener Elias Maier, most recently at EHC Königsbrunn, Florian Imminger (TSV Farchant) and Steven Wagner (EA Schongau), who are experienced in the upper league, put on the TSV jersey.

"All three help us," says Neal about the trio.

In addition, the Peißenberger give several players from their own U20 a chance.

The second goalkeeper position could be filled by the Peißenbergers with Jonathan Kornreder, who played in Peiting and Kaufbeuren as a youth and who most recently spent a year as an ice hockey apprentice in the USA.

With captain Martin Andrä and the defenders Dominik Ebentheuer and Max Malzatzki, he has three experienced players who should show the young talents the way.

“We have a good team that can play in midfield,” Neal is convinced of his squad.

"We'll need a little more time," said the TSV coach after the very short preparation on ice with only two test matches.

Although the Peißenberger were not complete against the league rivals Geretsried and Schongau, they went off the ice as winners.

At the start of the season on the weekend there are two promoted players.

This Friday, TSV will compete at ESV Buchloe (8 p.m.), which has returned to the Bavarian League after two years in the regional league.

The TSV will play their first home game on Sunday against ESC Kempten (5.30 p.m.).

Except for Martin Lidl, who is paused for a longer time due to injury, all men are probably on board.

The Allgäu completely turned their team inside out and strengthened it with many former league players.

"If you go by their squad, the Bayern League should only be a stopover," speculates TSV spokesman Andreas Schugg.
