Maccabi Tel Aviv opens a season against Panathinaikos and showcases the MVP of Eurocup Scotty Wilbkin and the promising chin from the NBA Tariq Black.
But Angelo Cloiaro from Banvit, in his first game in the Euroleague, issues 11 points, seven rebounds and a 17 in 21 minutes.

For three months, Maccabi has been looking for a team that will want to take Cloiaro, but has not found one.
Only after losing Omri Caspi and being relegated from the State Cup by Hapoel Jerusalem, is she convinced to register him for the Euroleague.
In the rematch against Wheelerban he is impressive with nine points, five rebounds and a 16 in 17 minutes.

The Yellows set off without forwards Quincy Acey, Jake Cohen and Danny Abdia leaving, without the injured Omri Caspi and Yuval Sussman and almost exclusively Dragan Bender who just joined.
But again they have Cloiaro, who stars in the premiere against Alba Berlin with 18 points, four rebounds, three steals and a 25 in 31 minutes.

Another season has passed and another season has passed.
More and more players came and went, leaving Cloiaro dust in the payroll.
But he is always there;
Not the most stable, perhaps not the most elegant, and certainly not the most talented and athletic, but willing to live off the crumbs of others and cover for those who will miss, get injured or just get tired.
The man is a walking sports cliché that is all about spirit, character and class that can’t be bought with money (and maybe that’s why he was wronged, and he earns only $ 375,000 a season).
There is no one else but Labrador.
Last night was full of squeaks, and ranged from ups and downs - as befits a team that appears for the first time in seven months against a non-Israeli opponent.
Chris Jones (we’ll get back to that later) demonstrated a perfect offensive display before the break, and pretty much disappeared after it;
Elijah Bryant completed it and concentrated his contribution to the second half;
Wilbkin (to whom we will return later) enjoyed a drunken minute on a long and tiring evening, which was one of his weakest in the last year.
And only Cloiaro was his own: three and a steal in the first quarter, three points and two steals in the second, six points and three rebounds in the third, six points, a rebound and a steal in the fourth.
Not stunning, not outrageous, nor does it fall or mess up.
In one word: solid.

For the first time in six years, and for the second time in 11 years, Maccabi Tel Aviv opened the Euroleague season with a home game.
But what about the reality of our lives and the home advantage?
The yellow and blue lighting outside the hall went out, and the concrete walls were gray and gray again;
From the shop window of the abandoned club shop still stands the figure of Quincy Acey (anyone here out of date, or perhaps trying to hint at something about the future?);
The iron barriers were absent from the exit at Gate 9;
There was even a spark of longing for the oppressive traffic jams at the La Guardia interchange.
Under these conditions, it is no wonder that basketball on the floor is not brilliant.
This is perhaps the first time that one can really examine the truths of the argument that the audience is worth ten points a night, and the first findings go in favor of the fans.
When Alba Berlin escaped to a double-digit gap at the end of the first quarter, it was hard not to wonder what would have happened if 11,000 roars and shouters had been sitting around.
Apart from the lack of energy around, Maccabi Tel Aviv looked confused in the first minutes.
Yannis Sapropoulos chose to put Wilbkin in the center position, and his team returned to its obscene habits from two years ago and from the series against Hapoel Tel Aviv in the playoffs of the Corona League.
In the first attack he dribbled himself to know, and finally threw an uncomfortable ball, under time pressure, which fell in the open;
Ante Žižić received one pass in the first five minutes;
And the Yellows finished the quarter with more assists losses, and with just one basket out of the point zone (and also from an offensive rebound).
The solution was in Jones' hands.
Maccabi does not need to concentrate on the character of Nick Klatis or Sergio Rodriguez to present a formidable back line;
It is clear to her, and not from today, that she can compromise on price and quality, and focus on bringing in the right man who will properly complement Wilbkin.
With a lag of 23:15, the Greek coach sent the new coordinator to the floor, and at times Maccabi Tel Aviv of 2018/19 vacated its place in favor of Maccabi Tel Aviv of 2019/20.
Her second quarter was happy, energetic and deadly, and only the silence in the stands betrayed the difference again: she flew to 12:30, delivered nine assists and did not lose a single ball;
The American scored 12 points, and performed 11 actions on the field until the break - with only one of them negative.
In the minutes that Jones was on the field throughout the evening, Maccabi won 38:60;
In the minutes he sat on the bench, she lost 35:20.
Wilbkin, who until Jones' entry seemed detached and frustrated, composed 64 dream seconds in his team's record lag (31:19): he scored a three, took a rebound, picked up Elijahop for Othello Hunter, ran Jones for a quick burst, and himself finished a fast Break in points.
He had eight index points in that minute, compared to minus two in the other 28 minutes.
Maccabi ran to 0: 9, flew to 2:25 and received the confidence margin required to come out with a victory in the evening that could have been complicated.
Do not need to concentrate on like Klatis, but one that will fit alongside Wilbkin.

And no, it turns out that winning under these conditions is not a matter of course.
Neither is Alba.
Because if on an evening when well-oiled attacking machines like Barcelona, CSKA Moscow and Anadolu Zero appear, 80 points is enough for Maccabi to be the leading scorer in the Euroleague, it's a sign that something is happening; and when Olympiacos open a season with a home loss, for the first time in 16 years, things seem obvious. And when Zero gets stuck on less than 70 points, for the first time in a whole year, and surrenders in the hall of Zenit St. Petersburg, it means the world is shaking.
Basketball without a crowd is another basketball. It's sad, and oppressive, and depressing. And it has an opening for much more surprises than usual. This is what happened in the Spanish playoffs, when Basconia was crowned the eighth place champion; so it was in Germany, when Alba won the championship from the fourth place; this is what happens in the NBA bubble, and in a sense also in the Champions League Final Eight, when only one of the four heads This season, one can cautiously estimate, surprises such as Piraeus and Istanbul from last night, will not be so rare.

* Lior Eliyahu in 2006, Yogev Ohayon in 2011, Oz Blazer in 2020.
In the last 20 years, only three Israelis have started in Maccabi Tel Aviv's quintet in their Euroleague debut.
* Luke Sikma has made 106 appearances in the diverse Euroleague and EuroCup, and last night, for the first time, finished an entire game on a negative index (4-).
* Ninth place in Maccabi in the index, eighth in minutes, seventh in points, sixth in rebounds and first in losses.
This is not exactly the premiere that Žižić dreamed of.
His moments of grace are kept (for now) in the system.
