Mick Schumacher's first free practice session in Formula 1 has been canceled due to bad weather conditions.
The Fia announced at noon that the first training session of the Grand Prix of the Eifel at the Nürburgring would not take place.
Due to the fog on the track, the rescue helicopter could not take off, but this is mandatory in Formula 1.
The 21-year-old Schumacher was to make his debut for the Alfa Romeo racing team in an official session of the premier class.
Actually, the son of the former Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher drives in Formula 2. Alfa Romeo's team boss Frédéric Vasseur left it open in an interview with Sky television whether Schumacher would get another chance at a later race of the season.
Numerous fans had gathered at the Nürburgring, including hats and flags from Michael Schumacher.
For the second free practice on Friday (3 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de; TV: Sky) Schumacher is not an option.
Then Alfa Romeo's regular driver Antonio Giovinazzi takes over the cockpit again, who has to test the track before the race on Sunday (2.10 p.m., live ticker SPIEGEL.de; TV: RTL, Sky).
In addition to Schumacher, the 21-year-old Callum Ilott also had to forego his official debut in a Formula 1 racing car, he was supposed to drive for Haas in training.
Both drivers are part of Ferrari's junior program, both Alfa Romeo and Haas drive Ferrari engines.
