Gladiators celebrate 1-0 success against extremely tough Schongauer.
Erding - The Erding Gladiators returned from Schongau on Friday evening with a 1-0 (1-0, 0-0, 0-0) success.
It was a brilliant performance against aggressive hosts.
Four defenders, nine strikers - the Erdinger had traveled to the Pfaffenwinkel with a rump team.
The Schongauers, however, had the full band with them: 20 field players, so four complete rows.
So it was very helpful to have a better start.
Marco Babic failed at the first attempt, but the Schongauers couldn't get the puck out of the danger zone, and Erdinger put the target past goalie Daniel Blankenburg to make it 1-0 into the net (4th).
Shortly afterwards there was a chance to make it 2-0, when two Schongauers hit the penalty box, but the Erdinger did not play this excess.
But then the Schongauer took over the command, but goalie Christoph Schedlbauer proved to be a great support.
There was no Erdinger on the other side when Blankenburg let a puck ricochet forward.
In the second third, the Erdinger dominated.
The shortcoming: exploitation of chances and outnumbered game.
The gladiators had enough opportunities for power play against the hard going Schongauer.
But they only got really dangerous at five against five.
The two biggest upsets in the middle section: a slap shot from Babic to the crossbar and a cross check at the middle line against Rudi Lorenz, who had to bleed from the ice.
Referee Markus Sperl left it with a very mild 2 + 2 penalty.
The chances of the Schongauer?
Two counterattacks during the Erdinger superiority game.
Schongau came out of the cabin furious, inflamed a lot of pressure and was unlucky with a shot in the post.
The Erdinger were now constricted, but the puck didn't want anything in the goal - not even when it jumped off the crossbar and landed directly on the net.
In a relief attack, Florian Zimmermann missed the decision.
The Schongau Roman Tomanek then let himself be carried away to a stick blow against Alex Gantschnigg, which earned him five minutes plus playing time.
And yet the Erdinger almost let themselves be countered ten seconds before the end, but once again goalie Schedlbauer was reliable.
