Rafa Nadal reigns again at Roland Garros.
With his victory in the great Parisian this Sunday, the 13th of his career on French clay, the man from Manacor equals Roger Federer and manages to add to his
ranking
20 victories in a Grand Slam.
They are the only two tennis players (in the men's category) in the world to have achieved such a feat.
On June 5, 2005, a young Rafa Nadal, who had just turned 19 years earlier, bit the trophy of his first Roland Garros.
He was the only tennis player, besides Mats Wilander (1982), to win the Parisian trophy the first time he played it.
Since then, he has added a total of 13 cups to his record, the last one this Sunday against Serbian Novak Djokovic.
Roland Garros continues to be Nadal's fetish tournament.
With 102 games played, the Balearic tennis player has accumulated 100 victories.
They have only managed to beat him on the Parisian clay Soderling (in 2009) and Djokovic (in 2015) in addition to the withdrawal in the third round of 2016.
Nadal is part of a select podium to which only a select few have been able to ascend.
These are the tennis players who accumulate the largest:
The Beijing Olympic Games (2008) gave Nadal his first number one in the ATP (Association of Professional Tennis Players) rankings, at just 22 years old, a position where he remained for 46 consecutive weeks and to which he has returned in eight occasions since then.
Chronic tendonitis in his knees and other back and wrist injuries forced him to miss big events, such as the 2012 Olympics or the US Open, or to withdraw from Roland Garros in 2016 or the Masters Cup in 2017. Pese to the potholes, the Balearic tennis player has led the
ranking for
a total of 209 weeks, the last time between November 4, 2019 and February 2.
