Since Pep Guardiola left Barcelona, one of the greatest coaches of all time has failed to win the Champions League.
The reason, at least according to Felix Megat, is pretty simple: he no longer has Lionel Messi by his side.
"Barcelona's method worked solely thanks to Messi, who could have decided a game out of nowhere," said the veteran German coach.
"He is the one who won the titles and not Pep. Without Messi, this method would not have had a chance to work for Guardiola, otherwise he would have won the Champions League also with Bayern Munich and Manchester City a long time ago."
Megat, who recently coached in the Chinese league about three years ago, added: "Tiki-taka only works if you have players who are technically superior to opponents. For the spectator, holding the ball is boring and a top team should not play like that. I think Pep sometimes gets lost trying to win "Games ahead of time. This tactic of his goes in the wrong directions and prevents success."

And if we were talking about Messi, then Carles Puyol referred to the turbulent summer last season, and also to rumors of a possible departure from Barcelona at the end of next season: "Like any fan I did not want Leo to leave. In the end he decided to stay and has motivation, he wants to win here and we hope "That will stay for many more years. It is a huge asset to La Liga."
Sergio Busquets also commented on Barcelona's situation today, saying: "Last year was not our best, but football is a team sport, and if you do not succeed as a team, you will not succeed individually. Things have changed and I hope the situation will improve now."
