It wasn't a great victory, but a game that brought three important points: The German U21 national soccer team won 1-0 (1-0) against Bosnia-Herzegovina in Fürth.
Lukas Nmecha scored the goal in the 29th minute.
Since the previous table leaders Belgium surprisingly lost 1-0 (0-1) in Moldova, coach Stefan Kuntz's team is now in first place in European Championship qualification group I.
In an encounter at a low level, the action took place for almost half an hour between the kick-off point and the opponent's penalty area, until a stroke of genius brought the lead: Salih Özcan penetrated the guests' penalty area on the right wing and fitted the ball sharply into the six-yard area where Nmecha finished with his back to the goal with a heel (29th minute).
Group victory possible on your own
But even with the lead in the back, the German game remained bumpy and the guest from Bosnia-Herzegovina had several good opportunities.
Three to five shots on goal were called after 90 minutes from the German point of view, but the Neu-Leverkusen Lennart Grill did not have to accept a goal in the German goal.
The DFB juniors would after the Belgian defeat with a victory in the final group game against Wales on November 17, make first place and the qualification perfect.
The group winners and the five best runners-up will take part in the finals in Slovenia and Hungary in 2021.
