Weilheim's basketball players presented themselves as strong as a bear in Neumarkt.
Yet they had no reason to be happy.
Weilheim
- In the opening success against DJK SB Munich, the basketball players of TSV Weilheim showed a strong performance in defense and gave the opponent only 68 points.
The TSV basket hunters could not build on this performance in the first away game of the 2nd Regionalliga Süd at the Fibalon Baskets Neumarkt.
The receipt for the blatant defensive weaknesses was a 97: 103 (40:51) defeat.
"It was an interesting game for the spectators, but not so much for the coach," said TSV coach Darryl Millwood after the shooting festival against the also very weak home side.
"Neither team really defended," said Millwood.
We couldn't build up the pressure like that.
Weilheim's trainer Darryl Millwood
His plan to put pressure on the Neumarkt players in order to prevent allusions to their numerous giants did not work out.
"We couldn't build up the pressure like that," Millwood confessed.
This was possibly also due to the fact that he only had eight players available for the guest appearance in the Upper Palatinate, and they had to manage their resources.
Basketball: Weilheim with a weak free throw rate
His fear that his players might have problems with the foul statistics as a result - after five fouls it is over for the respective player - was not confirmed.
“The referees were sovereign and had a good line.
But we didn't really use it, ”said Millwood, also referring to the free throw rate of his team, which remained below its possibilities with 58 percent.
Neumarkt recorded a similarly moderate average, but in the end more throws landed in the target with the hosts than with the Weilheimers.
Above all, Max Richter could not be stopped, who had seven successful three-point throws and collected a total of 29 points.
“Unfortunately we couldn't get it under control,” admitted Millwood.
After the first quarter, his squad was almost level with the hosts (20:21).
In the second quarter, the Neumarkters met more often, so they fought for an eleven-point lead by half time.
Basketball: Coach Millwood also blames himself for defeat
Led by Andy Thumser and Andreas Brem, who were each successful four times with three-point throws, the TSV basket hunters started a chase after the break, which brought them up to 57:58 (25th).
After that, the game remained exciting and competitive.
In the final quarter, the Neumarkters managed to successfully defend their leadership to the end.
"Maybe I used the wrong tactic," said Millwood, who didn't want to blame the team for this avoidable defeat afterwards.
Weilheim's players and their points: Andy Thumser 24/4 Dreier, Andreas Brem 23/4, Alex Brem 14, Alex Thumser 12, Matthias Modrok 8, Philipp Brenner 8, Johnny Millwood 8/1, Tim Kranke.
