Erding - After four away games, the Erding Gladiators played their first home game of the season on Friday evening.
However, the premiere failed, because against the ESC Kempten Sharks there was a narrow 5: 6 (2: 2, 1: 0, 1: 3) defeat after being extended.
The game started turbulent.
Right at the first majority, Max Schmidle brought the Sharks 1-0 up (3rd).
Just 37 seconds later, Marko Babic thundered the puck after Dürr Pass to make it 1-1 into the Kempten network, but again only 68 seconds later Nikolas Oppenberger scored 2-1 for the Sharks.
As a result, the gladiators put a lot of pressure on, had the best opportunities, but it wasn't until the 13th minute that the time had come: Daniel Krzizok made use of a Krzizok pass to make it 2-2.
However, the Kempteners showed that they are rightly counted among the secret favorites, because they offered technically fine ice hockey.
The Sharks stepped up a gear in the middle third and were incredibly snappy.
Now Erdings keeper Christoph Schedlbauer was constantly challenged.
But slowly the hosts got the game under control again, and now Jennifer Harß was able to show what she can do on the other side.
She performed her greatest deed in the 32nd minute against Philipp Michl.
In the 39th minute, however, she was powerless when Florian Zimmermann sank a Krzizok pass to make it 3-2.
At the beginning of the final third, the gladiators had the majority for the first time, but they ran into a counterattack, which Oppenberger completed to 3: 3 (47th).
Only a few minutes later the next Erdinger power play, and this time the Gladiators did better: Krzizok finished 4: 3 (50th).
But that was far from it, because the strong Sharks struck back immediately, Schäffler scored the 4: 4 (52nd), and Michel Maaßen gave the Allgäu 5: 4 lead (54th).
In the last few minutes the gladiators were throwing everything forward.
Although an Erdinger was on the penalty bench.
Gladiators coach Thomas Vogl took his goalkeeper off the ice and Krzizok pushed the puck over the line to make it 5: 5.
In extra time there was the next controversial penalty against Erding, and Daniel Rau scored for Kempten 6: 5 (61st).
