Favorites, French clubs and players ... The Europa League guide

2020-10-20T12:18:50.760Z

The program, the favorites, the French clubs and players… Here is everything you need to know about the Europa League which will start this Thursday.

Where and when to watch the Europa League?

As every year, the Europa League matches take place on Thursdays at 6:55 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The C3 is broadcast on

RMC Sport

and

Téléfoot

the channel.

With which health protocol?

The health protocol of the Europa League will be the same as that of the Champions League.

Faced with Covid-19, UEFA has put in place very strict regulations: compulsory tests two or three days before the match for the players, staff and managers.

Only people with a negative test will be able to travel by private transport.

The risk that a match will be canceled seems low because a meeting can take place as soon as 13 players, including a goalkeeper at least, are available.

The regulations nevertheless require that the stadiums where matches take place must be validated.

If a poster cannot stand in a stadium, it can be folded into another enclosure.

However, if this home club cannot find a replacement stadium or another date, it will be held responsible for the non-progress of the match and UEFA will declare a defeat by forfeit 0-3.

Likewise if a team fails to inform the authority of any restriction likely to affect the organization of a match.

With the public?

UEFA has authorized the return of spectators within the limit of 30% of a stadium's capacity.

Only local fans can visit the venue.

Travel by supporters is prohibited.

If we cannot exceed this 30% gauge, many countries have kept it in camera such as England, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands… The Bayer Leverkusen-Nice meeting (6:55 pm) will be played without an audience .

In curfew, Lille will also operate behind closed doors.

What are the chances of French clubs in the group stage?

Placed in group C with Bayer Leverkusen (5th in the Bundesliga in 2019-2020), the champion of the Czech Republic, Slavia Prague, and Hapoël Beer Sheva (4th in the Israel Championship last season), Nice (5th Ligue 1 in 2019-2020) has every chance of qualifying for the round of 16.

For its part, Lille (former 4th in L1) will have a hard time facing regulars in the Champions League, namely AC Milan (6th in Serie A in 2019-2020), the Scottish champion, Celtic Glasgow, and Sparta Prague (3rd in the Czech League).

LOSC will have to launch its campaign in Prague (9:00 p.m.) against the weakest opponent in Pool H.

What are the favorites?

Who to succeed Sevilla FC?

Before the third in the group stage of the Champions League join the knockout stages of C3, Tottenham (finalist of C1 2019), Arsenal (finalist of C1 2006 and C3 2000 and 2019), Naples (winner C3 1989) and AC Milan (seven-time winner of the C1) are favorites.

Mourinho's Spurs and Arteta's Gunners will be keen to make up for it after a missed Premier League season.

Leicester, Villarreal d'Emery (triple winner of the C3 with Sevilla), AS Roma, Bayer Leverkusen and Benfica Lisbon are serious outsiders.

Who are the French players to watch?

Obviously, the captain of the Blues Hugo Lloris and Tanguy Ndombélé in Tottenham.

At Arsenal, young defender Wiliam Saliba and striker Alexandre Lacazette will be seen.

Among the Nice group, it will be interesting to watch how Stanley Nsoki, Myziane Maolida, Amine Gouiri, Reine-Adélaïde, Képhren Thuram and Morgan Schneiderlin are doing.

Opposed to Nice, midfielder Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen will have to be watched.

Just like Napoli midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko or even Barça's 20-year-old central defender Jean-Clair Todibo on loan to Benfica.

We can't wait to see Leicester's new central defender Wesley Fofana (19), recruited € 35m from Saint-Etienne, and defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy at work.

On the Lille side, goalkeeper Mike Maignan, wingers Jonathan Ikoné and Jonathan Bamba and promising Isaac Lihadji will be scrutinized.

The Mastiffs will have to be wary of defender Christopher Jullien and especially of center-forward Odsonne Edouard from Celtic Glasgow.

But also pay attention to left-back Théo Hernandez and 20-year-old right-back Pierre Kalulu (arrived from Lyon) of AC Milan.

Another French player to watch is defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin de Villarreal.

What are the most beautiful posters?

Lille inherited the most difficult group.

The matches between Lille and AC Milan and Lille and Celtic Glasgow will therefore be to see.

The double Nice-Bayer Leverkusen confrontation promises a great battle between these two teams who will fight for first place in the group.

Naples-Real Sociedad, Glasgow Rangers-Benfica Lisbon or Leicester-Braga will also be great encounters to see.
