Borussia Dortmund started with a defeat in Group F of the Champions League.

BVB lost 1: 3 (0: 2) at Lazio Rom and needs better performances and results in the coming weeks against the outsiders Club Brugge and Zenit St. Petersburg.

Because against Lazio, the Bundesliga club showed a long stretches of erratic performance, the goals for the Romans were scored by Ciro Immobile (6th minute), goalkeeper Marwin Hitz with an own goal (23rd) and Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro (76th).

Erling Haaland met for BVB (71st).

In the run-up to the game in the Olympic Stadium in Rome, there was a lot of discussion on the Dortmund side about the line-up of the defense chain.

The ailing Lukasz Piszczek got fit in time and was able to play alongside Mats Hummels and Thomas Delaney.

With Hummels, BVB coach Lucien Favre was still only a trained central defender - Emre Can was missing, Dan-Axel Zagadou injured and Manuel Akanji was also not yet fit after being infected with the corona.

The early deficit did not result from coordination problems in the newly formed defense.

It was a simple playback error by Thomas Meunier who brought Joaquin Correa to the ball in the Dortmund penalty area.

The Argentine put across Immobile and the striker lifted from close range over the heat, which was again in goal for Roman Bürki, into the goal of his former employer.

BVB produces a lot of mistakes in the game structure

The 0: 1 ensured that the original starting position of the game no longer existed.

Favorite Dortmund lined up mistake after mistake, Lazio on the other hand seemed very confident and could have led higher.

When Raphael Guerreiro missed the best BVB chance to date (21st), Hitz steered a header from Luiz Felipe after a corner to make it 2-0 into his own goal.

Meunier could have made up for his mistake shortly afterwards and scored the goal, but the Belgian pushed the ball past after Haaland presented it (28).

Favre replaced Giovanni Reyna for Jude Bellingham in the second half and made his team a little more offensive in theory.

However, the result was a typical BVB game behind against a deep opponent.

The Dortmund team was visually superior, combined pleasing without developing penetrative power in the attack third.

The Romans relied on the counterattack and were closer to the third goal than BVB to the first.

But Dortmund have Haaland, who also needs few chances for a goal in the Champions League.

The Romans were outnumbered on the defensive - and yet a simple cross pass from Reyna was enough to let Haaland complete freely from 13 meters.

However, the hope lasted only five minutes.

In a counterattack, Immobile was sent to the baseline, Akpa-Akpro found his back pass and the substitute Ivorian shot in from close range.
